ATMOSPHERE Interesting Facts:
The atmosphere plays a big role in making Earth suitable for life. It blocks some of the sun's dangerous rays, yet traps heat, making a comfortable temperature. The atmosphere is divided in to 5 layers: Trophosphere Stratosphere Mesosphere Thermosphere Exosphere A lightening bolt can heat the air around it to 54,000 degrees F. The International Space Station orbits within the thermosphere. The Jet Stream (effecting weather and ocean currents) travels in the boundary between the stratosphere and the troposphere. Interaction with other spheres: Shifting winds in the atmosphere effects the hydrosphere and biosphere, and geosphere. When the winds, shift, the weather pattern changes. Rain falls in a different area, and the area without rain becomes drier. Lakes and streams shrink (hydrosphere), plants die (biosphere), and the dry soil is impacted by erosion (geosphere). |
